Statement from AG-Elect Healey on the Supreme Court Agreeing to Rule on Same Sex Marriage Case

Attorney General-Elect Maura Healey today issued the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court agreeing to rule on whether same sex couples have a constitutional right to marry:

"By year's end, the United States Supreme Court will have decided whether our Constitution protects the fundamental right to marry the person you love. I am hopeful that history and the justices are ready to choose equality.

More than 10 years after the decision to legalize marriages between same-sex couples in Massachusetts, a generation of school children have grown up knowing nothing else. The public has watched as state after state have chosen equality and come out stronger and more equal than before. So, too, will our country when this case is finally decided." - Attorney General-Elect Maura Healey
