Attorney General Maura Healey is outlining her plans to tackle heroin and prescription drug addiction in Massachusetts.

Healey tells WGBH News she's looking forward to working on her own initiatives to tackle the issue, as well as collaborating with other officials - including Governor Charlie Baker, who has vowed to address the heroin and opioid problem in Massachusetts.

"I want to focus on things like safe prescribing and dispensing practices; more education and training for doctors, prescribers, and healthcare personnel, in addition to working to improve education and outreach for young people in particular," Healey told WGBH News.

Healey says she also wants to work on improving the state's prescription drug monitoring program; as well as evaluate drug marketing, prescribing and dispensing practices that can lead to unsafe drug use and abuse.
