Protecting Our Environment and Clean Energy Economy

Over the past four years, our team:

  • Secured a record-setting multi-million-dollar settlement with Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche for knowingly selling illegally polluting cars and SUVs.

  • Sued the EPA to protect critical federal limits on greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Stood up for our state’s fishing families and tourism industry by speaking out against the Trump Administration’s proposal to allow offshore oil and gas drilling along the Massachusetts coast.

  • Successfully sued the Trump Administration to compel the Department of Energy to implement critical energy efficiency standards.

  • Fought for Clean Water protections designed to ensure the nation’s rivers, streams and wetlands are protected from pollution.

  • Taken on Exxon Mobil to learn whether the company covered up its product’s contributions to man-made climate change.

Massachusetts needs an Attorney General who will stand up for our clean energy economy and coastal communities – even more so when faced with a federal administration that has made a mockery of our country’s environmental standards and put the interests of Big Oil over our future.

We know there is no Planet B. We know Massachusetts proudly leads the nation on environmental protection and demands a thriving clean energy economy.

Our office has consistently held polluters accountable and stood up to the Trump administration’s repeated attempts to roll back standards aimed at improving air quality and protecting our nation’s oceans and rivers. And we are demanding answers from Exxon Mobil on what its executives knew about climate change and what they did – or didn’t do – about it.

We led a multistate investigation into illegal “defeat device” software and secured a record-setting settlement from Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche for knowingly selling cars and SUVs that polluted the air we breathe. Mitigation funds from that settlement will enable Massachusetts to move forward with new, ambitious goals to meet electric power needs with clean energy.

Climate change is an existential threat, science and common sense have long since proved that. It’s our turn to do better for the next generation and all who will follow.
